Oh I had fun painting this one! It is 24" x 36", oil on canvas and is the third piece in a series I've been working on. This style of painting is called alla prima; also known as “first attempt” or “wet on wet” oil painting. Using this technique, entire paintings are completed without waiting for the paint layers to dry completely. For many, this is a favourite method because it allows for spontaneity and freshness. I enjoy how the painting has a realistic look from afar but close up, it dissolves into abstract lines and daubs of colour. Here are a couple of close-up shots of the piece...
I asked for help on social media to name this piece and I was completely blown away by the number of thoughtful and imaginative titles. Spirits Aligned hit the perfect note although it was a tough choice. Thanks for the help everyone!
